PHASE is coming to Scunthorpe Town Centre
Excitement is building here at PHASE as we’ve just announced we’re investing nearly half a million pound to support vulnerable young people in Scunthorpe.
What are we doing?
With help from North Lincolnshire council, we’re in the process of buying two retail units on Scunthorpe high street. Phase 1 of the project starts with one shop on the High Street. Then phase 2 will see the purchase of a second premise on the High Street.
We’re going to completely re-furbish them, create a shop, office space, space for young people to gain independent life skills and workshops, along with nine new homes for young people.
Why are we doing it?
PHASE provides high quality services for young people in the area. We offer housing, education, one to one support, skills development as well as employment and volunteering opportunities. So this project will allow us to extend the scope and quality of all aspects of our service as well as improving the community where we all live and work.
We plan to include our young people in designing and developing the new space which will then become a hub of daily activity to support their needs.
Not only will we offer housing, but also we’ll educate, offer life skills and improve young people’s chances of employment through this new project.
Our MD Sue Whitfield said: “The new project allows us to offer young people employment, training and volunteering opportunities on top of our core services of quality housing.
“It also puts us in the heart of the town which matches our vision to help young people become independent, responsible and valued members of their community.
“We’re delighted to have received support for this project from North Lincolnshire Council who are contributing £175,000 to the total cost.
“Our excellent partnership working arrangements with the council are proven through this joint venture, showing the commitment of the council and PHASE to achieve the best for young people in North Lincolnshire. “Young people will be involved in the development of the project through membership on the Project Board and volunteering opportunities in the refurbishment of the buildings, thus providing them with additional skills to help them enter the world of work.”
Work on the project is set to begin in Spring this year. Follow us on twitter or at #PHASE
